Article Processing Charges
The Ger. J. Microbiol. charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of 1800,00 € for accepted reviews, original research articles, short communications and case reports to cover copyediting and production costs of the journal, for hosting the website, publishing articles online, preparing HTML, XML and PDF versions of the article and submitting the articles in electronic citation database like CrossRef, plus VAT or local taxes where applicable. Since we do not want to make the payment capability to be a barrier, if you or your institution is unable to cover the costs, you may apply for a complete or partial waiver at the time of submission. Please download the APC waiver request from the author resources to explain the reasons for your request and send it to [email protected].
GMPC aims to ensure articles are published as quickly as possible, subject to appropriate quality controls, and widely disseminated. When authors receive an acceptance letter for their submitted manuscript, they are required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover the costs of peer review administration and management, professional article production, and dissemination of published papers. Authors are not charged for rejected articles, and there are no fees based on length, figures, or supplementary data. Certain items, such as corrections, corrigendum, commentary, letters, etc., are published free of charge. Please note that APCs are subject to periodic revision and that these charges are exclusive of sales tax that can apply. Of note, GMPC is a debt-free company and does not repay loans or investments. GMPC does not receive any external funding from any sources. Instead, it relies solely on APC to maintain and run its operations. This approach ensures that GMPC can operate smoothly and effectively while also maintaining a high degree of alignment with its overall goals and objectives.
Adjustments in GMPC´s APCs are under regular review and are subject to change. Here is a rough breakdown of how our APCs are used: i) Discounts and waivers (25%). On average, we waive approximately 25% of the published papers in our journals. Since we do not want to make payment capability a barrier, if authors or their institutions are unable to cover the costs, they may apply for a complete or partial waiver at the time of submission. Our policy ensures that all articles that pass peer review can benefit from open access—regardless of the author's field or funding situation. ii) Publishing Operations and projects (12%). Electronic submission systems, websites, several platform services, human resources and accounting, office rental, and technical infrastructure. iii) Personal costs (25%). For skilled professionals who run our editorial programs, build our technology, and deliver premium services on our custom-built open science platform. This also includes management and personnel who perform production and those who handle any questions and requests for support before submission, during the editorial and peer-review process, or post-publication services. iv) Production and publication (13%). This includes, for example, minor English editing by native English speakers, proofreading, indexing & archiving, and digital preservation. v) Marketing and Communication (5%). GMPC promotes dissemination through regular invitations, sponsorships of conferences, and scholarly society events. It also promotes dissemination through news media, social media, newsletters, and article alerts. vi) Growth, expansion, and development (20%). Surplus is used for future improvement, including the founding of new journals, hiring new administrative and supportive staff, developing our own electronic submission system, and improving our website.
